The Team

Azam Foda


Azam Foda has over 20 years of finance and operations experience in fast changing private and public companies both in the technology and manufacturing spaces. Azam has had repeated success equipping private companies with a public company like regimen and cadence. In the tech arena, Azam has supported Hummingbird Ltd.'s 10x growth and has helped successfully exit a Kleiner Perkins keiretsu company. Mr. Foda has an MBA from Rotman Business School at the University of Toronto and holds a CPA, CMA designation.

Robert Secontine

VP Sales

Mr. Secontine comes to Univa with over 25 years of executive sales management experience to lead Univa's accelerating growth. Mr. Secontine has excelled in creating high performing customer-focused organizations for several technology companies that culminated with successful outcomes such as the IPO at Indigo (NASD INDG) (later acquired by Hewlett Packard) and Vi{Z}RT. Most recently, Mr. Secontine led sales and business development at Scali Inc. which was acquired by Platform Computing.

Fritz Ferstl


Fritz Ferstl brings 20 years of grid and cloud computing experience to Univa, and as the Chief Technology Officer he helps define the technical vision. Fritz, long regarded as the father of Grid Engine software and its forerunners Codine and GRD, ran the Grid Engine software business from within Sun Microsystems and Oracle, taking it from an upstart technology to the most widely deployed workload management solution, used in some of the most challenging data center environments on the planet. Under Fritz's leadership, Grid Engine software was open sourced with its own vibrant community.

Robert Lalonde

Vice President and General Manager, Cloud

Rob Lalonde brings over 25 years of executive management experience to lead Univa's accelerating growth and entry into new markets. Rob has held executive positions in multiple, successful high tech companies and startups. He possesses a unique and multi-disciplined set of skills having held positions in Sales, Marketing, Business Development, and CEO and board positions. Rob has completed MBA studies at York University's Schulich School of Business and holds a degree in computer science from Laurentian University.

Bill Bryce

VP of Products

Bill Bryce brings 14 years of experience to his position as VP of Products in which he leads product management. Bill was instrumental in introducing agile development across Univa's distributed team, resulting in a doubling of engineering efficiency. Bill is also credited with the conception and development of key products including Univa's cloud management products. Mr. Bryce received his B Math in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo.

Dale Quayle


Dale Quayle is a 25 year veteran of the Enterprise Software industry. He understands the needs of businesses, and has been helping customers take advantage of innovative new solutions throughout his career. The convergence of transformational technologies with the needs of enterprises is an area where Dale's leadership has allowed innovative new companies to succeed. Dale has held a number of executive positions at both private and public high-tech companies. In 2000, Dale was instrumental in the sale of the network performance management company, Trinagy Software, to Hewlett Packard. At HP Dale lead the integration efforts of Trinagy, and went on to head Mergers and Acquisitions for the HP software division from 2001 until his departure in 2004. Most recently, Quayle was the President and CEO of Integrien, a California based performance analytics software company that was sold to VMWare in September of 2010.

Janice P. Anderson


Janice P. Anderson is an experienced business leader, strategist, and entrepreneur with a strong track record in emerging technology markets and global operations. She has successfully led businesses within a broad range of the technology industry including digital media, mobile communications as well as enterprise software and cloud services. Her recent executive and advisory roles include Swype, Twisted Pair Solutions, Muze Inc. and Onyx Software (ONXS). Prior to these positions, Janice created a high growth CRM business unit for Lucent Technologies and led international operations for AT&T Corporation. She has also founded several high growth technology businesses and led over 15 corporate exits and combinations. Janice is the Chair Emeritus of the Washington Technology Industry Association and an active member of the World/Young Presidents Organization. She holds a BA in Honors Commerce from the University of Toronto; a CPA-CMA and an MBA in Finance and Strategy from the Schulich School of Business.

Mark Levine

Managing Director, Core Capital Partners

Mark Levine is a Managing Director of Core Capital Partners a Washington DC based venture capital firm with $350 million under management. He has been an active venture investor for twenty five years and was an early investor in webMethods, one of the most successful software IPOs in NASDAQ history. Previously, Mark served as an officer of GEO-CENTERS, a technology firm with more than $200 million in revenue when it was acquired by SAIC. Earlier in his career, Mark was Subcommittee Staff Director for the Small Business Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives and was involved in several successful legislative and regulatory initiatives including the Small Business Innovation Development Act and the Small Business and University Patent Act. His civic activities include serving on the Board of Trustees of the Arena Stage Theatre, the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association (MAVA), the Board of Advisors of both The George Washington University School of Business and the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Maryland, and the Advisory Board of Marshfield Associates. Mark received his M.B.A. from The George Washington University and lives in Washington, DC with his wife and two children.

Mark McDonnell

Managing Director, CFO and CAO

Mark McDonnell is a Managing Director, Chief Financial and Chief Administrative Officer for ARCH Venture Partners. He joined the company in 1999. Mr. McDonnell is responsible for developing and managing strategies and strategic relationships for ARCH, and directs the financing and organizational infrastructure of ARCH's portfolio. He also is responsible for financial reporting and analysis of ARCH's venture funds, and administrative oversight of ARCH operations in five locations in the U.S. and Ireland. Previously, Mr. McDonnell held the position of CFO at Marquette Venture Partners. He also held previous roles in financial management with Enterprise Systems, a health care software developer acquired by HBO & Co., and with KPMG, LLP, serving clients primarily in the information and communication industries. Mr. McDonnell is a C.P.A. and holds a B.S. from Marquette University.

Rik Vandevenne

River Cities Capital Funds

Rik joined River Cities Capital Funds in 2004 to focus on healthcare information technology, medical devices and business services investment opportunities. He came to River Cities with strong strategy and business management experience in high growth companies. Rik is responsible for sourcing and evaluating new investment opportunities, and working with executives in portfolio companies on marketing, product development and strategy. He serves on the boards of Fullscope and EndoChoice, is an observer for Pioneer Surgical Technology, and is actively involved with Privaris and SciQuest. Prior to business school, Rik gained experience working with early stage venture backed companies in the strategy group of Scient, a global eBusiness consulting firm. Before Scient, Rik worked for four years at Accenture, first in the healthcare services group and then at the Internet Center of Excellence where he helped launch several venture backed start-ups. Rik graduated from Vanderbilt University where he received his BE in Mechanical Engineering. Rik serves on the Board of Directors of the Center for Entrepreneurial Development (www.cednc.org ), the largest entrepreneurial support organization in the nation with more than 4,000 active members representing over 1,100 companies. Rik also serves on the board of several Duke University organizations including the EVCC and Private Equity Club.
